Rx. Ginseng Ren Shen

Tonifies Spleen, Heart and Yuan Qi.

With Bai Zhu, tonifies the transformation and transportation functions of the Spleen. With Huang Qi, Bai Zhu and Zhi Gan Cao, tonifies the Spleen to generate Blood. With Bai Zhu and Fu Ling, for Spleen and Stomach Qi Deficiency. With Dang Gui, Long Yan Rou and Yuan Zhi, for Heart and Spleen Deficiency.

Rx. Codonopsis Dang Shen

May substitute for Ren Shen.

Rx. Astragali Bai Zhu

Tonifies Blood and Spleen Qi.

With Dang Gui, generates and nourishes Blood. With Ren Shen, for Qi Deficiency with general debility, anorexia, and spontaneous sweat. With Bai Zhu, for Spleen Qi Deficiency with weakness, lassitude and loose stools. With Long Yan Rou, Dang Gui and Suan Zao Ren, for insomnia and other signs of Qi and Blood Deficiency.

Strengthens the Spleen and dries Dampness.

Poria Fu Shen

Strengthens the Spleen and harmonizes the Middle Jiao.

With Ren Shen and Huang Qi, tonifies the Spleen. With Ren Shen and Bai Zhu for weak and deficient Spleen with fatigue, anorexia and loose stools. With Gan Cao, for Spleen and Heart Deficiency causing facial edema, palpitations, and short-ness of breath. With Dang Shen, Suan Zao Ren and Long Yan Rou, for insomnia due to Spleen and Heart Insufficiency.

Scl. Poria Pararadicis Suan Zao Ren

Usually used in place of Fu Ling. Pacifies the Heart, calms the Shen and soothes the nerves.

With Suan Zao Ren, calms the Shen.

Sm. Zizyphi Spinosae Long Yan Rou

Nourishes Heart Yin and tonifies Liver Blood.

With Ren Shen, Fu Shen and Long Yan Rou, for insomnia, palpitations and irritability due to Spleen Qi and Heart Blood Deficiency.

Arillus Longan Mu Xiang

Nourishes the Blood, calms the Shen, and tonifies and nourishes the Heart and Spleen.

With Ren Shen, Dang Gui and Suan Zao Ren, for palpitations and insomnia due to Heart Blood Deficiency, especially in cases with Spleen Qi Deficiency.

Rx. Aucklandiae Zhi Gan Cao

Regulates Qi, strengthens the Spleen and prevents indigestion due to the rich nature of the other herbs.

With Bai Zhu, especially effective.

Fried Rx. Glycyrrhizae Dang Gui

Harmonizes and tonifies Qi.

With Fu Ling and Dang Shen, strengthens the Spleen, augments Qi and treats palpitations due to Heart Qi Deficiency. With Ren Shen, relieves palpitations and anxiety.

Fried Rx. Glycyrrhizae Zhi Yuan Zhi

Nourishes and harmonizes the Blood.

With Huang Qi, for many Blood Deficiency patterns.

Rx. Angelicae Sinensis Sheng Jiang

Calms the Shen, sedates the Heart and opens Orifices.

With Suan Zao Ren, it is especially effective because it balances the contracting, introverted and dispersing, extroverted manifestations of Spirit to ensure the proper balance of openness and sobriety. With Fu Shen and Suan Zao Ren, for symptoms of Heart Blood Deficiency. With Suan Zao Ren, Bai Zhu and Dang Gui, for palpitations and insomnia due to Qi Deficiency.
